KESEN is a land where its rich traditional culture is still alive.
Historically known as the gold mining area that gave birth to the "Zipangu, the Land of Gold" as Japan used to be called by foreigners,worship, festivals and celebrations, dances, architectures, arts and crafts are still passed on through generations.
The area, praised by the cultural anthropologist Kunio YANAGITA while inspirig Kenji MIYAZAWA, author and poet, is now divided into Ofunato city, Rikuzen-takata city and Sumita town.
